Discussion with writer Klara Pospíšilová

| Městská knihovna Železný Brod

About the author: Klára Hoffmanová, first name Klára Pospíšilová, was born on February 17, 1963 in Jilemnice. With the exception of her university studies at the Veterinary University in Brno, she has lived all her life in a small town in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains called Velké Hamry. Although she is the eldest of the daughters of two enthusiastic athletes, she has shown more literary than physical talent since her youth. Thus, instead of spartakiads and cross-country races, she participated in literary competitions. As she herself says, it was not a matter of any political awareness, but she simply did not feel like it, and controlled movement never appealed to her. Under her maiden name, Klára Hoffmanová writes mainly short stories and short story collections inspired by life in the Jizera Mountains and Krkonoše. On the shelves of bookstores you can regularly come across her calendars about forgotten personalities, places and crafts of the Jizera Mountains. She is also the author of children's books about the fairy Izerina, which introduce children to the traditions of our mountains in a playful way. And what is she like? Don't expect a boring lady writer, but an ordinary country vet. One who recommends rinsing your four-legged pet with burdock instead of antibiotics. Just the kind of "docent" you'll look forward to seeing, because you'll laugh, but the sound of her car engine will drive the dog, tail down, into the kennel. The one who will come to open the door for you in rubber gloves and a blood-splattered blouse, accompanied by the frantic barking of her three dogs and with a cat (or cats) on her shoulder that now and then someone leaves behind in the office due to aesthetic deficiencies, medical insufficiency or just plain excess. It's the old type of vets who spend half of their working hours in the field after patients, so that even Pajda, a panting ninety-something woman from Polubný, gets first-class care. Next time you're on the roads somewhere around Tanvald, Železný Brod or Harrachov, keep an eye out for a green Subaru, a female driver with flowing hair and three dogs of unidentifiable breeds on board. And if you're also passing through "Hamrama" from Svárov to Bohdalovice and the road is blocked by a flock of sheep, ask the vet straight away. In addition to her literary, veterinary and animal husbandry practice, Klára Hoffmanová is also a mother of three adult children, a member of the local hunting association and a member of the town council of Velké Hamry. BIBLIOGRAPHY.

The discussion will take place in the library in Železný Brod (Jiráskovo nábřeží Street).
