Cello quartet "just 4 cellos" in the Zittau Bürgersaal.

On Friday, September 30th, 2022, at 7:30 p.m., the Cello Quartet of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra will perform in Zittau.

Since 1998, Peter Albrecht, Jörg Breuninger, Christian Raudszus and Volkmar Weiche have been playing pieces of music that were expressly composed for four cellos, but quartet member Jörg Breuninger prefers arrangements by composers "who made a mistake with the instrumentation". His arrangements make it clear "that Schumann, Wagner or Purcell actually had four cellos in mind - and not piano or opera orchestra".

The bridge in the program spans from the Renaissance to the Romantic period to the present day. The gentlemen push the boundaries of what is imaginable in particular when they charmingly switch from serious to popular music.
