44th Christmas Concert of the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater

Tickets at 03591 584225

It has been a long time since we were able to sing about the Christmas season together. But now the anticipation is growing for a Christmas concert as one could only wish for - with choir, orchestra, instrumental and vocal soloists, contemplative but also exhilarating texts as well as one or the other musical aha experience. We remain true to the motto chosen for the past year, "Das schreib dir in dein Herze" (Write this in your heart) - true poetry, after all, retains its validity at all times. Paul Gerhardt, the poet of these words, sometimes lived through difficult times. Nevertheless, he was an "encourager. Even the probably greatest Thomaskantor, Johann Sebastian Bach, who sometimes composed under equally unpleasant circumstances, is still able to transport us directly to a better world with his music today. The first chorale of his Christmas Oratorio, Wie soll ich dich empfangen, is based on a poem by Paul Gerhardt, the sixth stanza of which begins with the haunting words "Das schreib dir in dein Herze. We have deliberately chosen this very phrase as the motto of our 44th Christmas concert - feel free to look up the rest of the verse before your visit.

Last year we asked ourselves - still somewhat hesitantly - whether we would be able to sing and make music from the heart again at Christmas. Let us answer it, guided by the encouragements of Paul Gerhardt and Johann Sebastian Bach, with courage and optimism - which, by the way, we always wish you plenty of outside the Christmas season!
