North Bohemian "Elbe Ballet" Ústi nad Labem

"The Nutcracker" was an overwhelming hit with the public when it premiered in Saint Petersburg in 1892 - and it still is today! In the romantic Christmas fiarytale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" by E.T.A. Hoffmann gives little Klara a nutcracker as a gift, which comes to life at night and, after bad entanglements, turns into a good fairytale prince in her dreams.

The ballet music for this fairytale, composed by Peter Iljitsch Tschaikowsky, promises all viewers, big and small, an entertaining treat at Christmas time. With the Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky received the long-deserved and longed-for recognition a year before his untimely death. The commission for the libretto and choreography was given to Marius Petipa, who achieved world fame not least through the choreographic implementation of Tchaikovsky's ballet works. Many international choreographers always used new ideas in dramaturgy and choreography when encountering the musical work of one of the most important composers and the literary model. Next to SWAN LAKE, "The Nutcracker" became the most important ballet classic, which continues to attract audiences to the world's ballet stages.

The North Bohemian "Elbe Ballet" Ústi nad Labem will stage the production of "The Nutcracker" in an opulent and lovingly designed production. The artistic direction and choreography is in the hands of Margarita Pleskova and Vladimir Goncarow. The North Bohemian Theater is internationally known for its excellent ballet ensemble. The ensemble has been on successful international guest performances for several years. Towards the end of this year, the dancers will be making guest appearances on a tour of Germany.
