In 1893, heavily pregnant Molly Johnson and her children struggle to survive in isolation in the harsh Australian countryside after her husband abandons her to herd sheep in the highlands. One day, she finds a wounded Aboriginal refugee named Yakada on her property. As an unlikely bond develops between the two, he uncovers secrets about their true identities. When city lawman Nate Clintoff discovers that Molly's husband is indeed missing, he becomes suspicious and sends his constable to investigate.
